La cabana is a must in Post Falls. Great family atmosphere. The chips and salsa are the best. We go once or twice a month and have many different dishes. Have never had anything that would disappoint. Great taco salad. The chili Relano is a favorite. Carne asada burrito is killer. Chimichangas and enchiladas are also a favorite. The service is awesome and my sons a picky eater and this is his favorite place to eat. Will not disappoint.

Though the service was attentive, it could not make up for the terrible food. We ordered the plate that had a cheese enchiladas, a Chile Relleno and a taco. The worst by far was both the taco and the chili. They were cooked in old grease which tasted stale and downright bad. Yes, the entire taco was deep friend and making it greasy inside and out. We asked our waitress for another taco not deep fried and she told us that ALL the tacos were deep fry. Not even the 'cheese' enchilada was decent. They use a cheap, flavorless cheese (think dollar store American cheese) with a tortilla (no enchilada sauce). Terrible food. Avoid.

Just moved to CdA from Northern California and we were hungry for Mexican food. We decided to give them a shot. The house made chips and Salsa are excellent. I ordered the Chicken Chimichunga, it was nice and hot, crispy and over all tasty. The beans are not good at all in my opinion and the rice was dry but good. My mother ordered an enchilada, taco with beans and rice. She didn't like the flavor of the Sauce, it was best described as "funky" the Taco was good nothing to write home about. My son ordered a Cheeseburger and fries from the kids menu and no cheese came on it. When we asked for a piece of cheese we were told it's shredded. Ok, so bring some out! Nope no cheese given. The service was quick but not very personable. The busses was on his game getting drinks, bussing, setting and pulling plates. The waitresses just take orders, run food and collect money. Probably won't come here again.

I really enjoy this place... Quiet atmosphere, great beans and rice and the mi casitas tacos are amazing! Great portions and the chips and salsa are so good, the chips are always fresh and warm. It's not particularly child friendly, but it's a great date night place.

I have eaten here before a few times and the food has been ok. Last night I went for dinner with my husband and 2 year old and we also met a couple of friends. I ordered the carne asada and thank god my son was not eating any of it. I got home and about 5 hours later started feeling ill. I was up all night vomiting and also had it coming out the other end also non stop. Major food poisoning. Will not be going back!

BEST chips and salsa, hands down, of ANY place I have ever tried. The super cabana burrito is my favorite, but I have never had anything I didn't like. The hard shell tacos are actually fried here, not the pre-made kind you would find in a grocery store, like some restaurants use.

Ok, let me start with the fact that my husband and I were out of town on our 7 year anniversary. We wanted to get good food that wouldn't take too long... We found a mexican restaurant with good reviews but on our way to it we pulled into this parking lot and as we saw its reviews were almost as good, we stayed. So the salsa and chips - served us both the hot and mild salsa. The hot salsa my husband loved and I loved the mild. Once we added salt to the chips...it was all amazing! My husband got the taco salad and I got the Macho Burrito. I couldn't finish my burrito even though I REALLY wanted to. The only thing that could have made it better is some sour cream and guac. We went on a Monday and they had signs everywhere saying "Margarita Monday" so since I love margaritas... My husband had a beer. With ALL this, our TOTAL bill was $22 even!!!!! I better specify that it was lunch special food...average "regular" price plate was about $13. So, the food was GREAT, drinks were good, the service...that's why they got a 4 not 5. Hostess was decent...waitress...once we finally saw her for the first time she got better but holy hannah it took quite a while to get her in the first place. Overall, I would recommend and will go back...someday...

Great beginnings. Staff very friendly and homemade chips and salsa AWESOME. But food is very bland albeit fresh. Frijoles were good. Plus Mexican food without scratch margaritas is a travesty

My wife and I recently relocated from California and were looking high and low for an authentic Mexican food restaurant - we found it a La Cabana. Not only were the chips to die for but the preparation style and service were all excellent....we will be going back....

Good Mexican Food. Very Clean place. Love the chips and salsa great way to start off you meal. Staff is very friendly.

We'd have eaten here for years one of our favs! Until today 2tacos al carte 10 bucks are you kidding me! Lesson learned!

Not sure why such previous good reviews? Must be from people who order off the combination menu... Enchiladas, tostadas, etc Pollo alla Crema, not good. Seemed like an Italian dish with their pasta & parmesan cheese added. Fajitas, okay, couldn't tell if they were even cooked in a cast iron skillet. Looked more microwaved. Why no lunch prices for these menu items? $24 for lunch, really? Puerto Vallarta is still the 4-5 star Mex restaurant to us!

From start to finish, it was PERFECT! Clean. Attentive, nice and polite waitstaff. Good chips/salsa, good dinner - we will go again!!

It was good enough, we had lunch here then went and bought a new Subaru down the street. The Margaritas were good and the chips were the lightest I've ever had. They were the stars of the lunch.

I moved to Vancouver last July and have been mourning my loss of decent Mexican food. Every time I visit my family in Idaho, my dad and I have to go to La Cabana at least once. Nancy, Loraina, Carmen and Felix always treat us like family when we're there. They adore my kids and sometimes take them for walks around the restaurant if they seem a bit cranky! Love them... and their food! My usual orders range from chicken enchiladas, beef tacos, chile rellanos, shredded beef burritos, rolled tacos and even tried the machaca for something different (it was REALLY good) The beans and rice are excellent and my picky children scarf them down. They have pretty decent margaritas, too. Oh, and If it's your birthday, they all come out with a sombrero and sing to you in Spanish while you wear it :) my three year old daughter loves the attention. I'm planning a visit in a few weeks and you can bet La Cabana is high on my list of priorities.

Clean restaurant, chips and salsa were good, but food was not very tasty. I ordered the vegetarian burrito and hubby ordered carne Asada. We both agreed that it did not taste like Authenic Mexican food and had come out of a can.

On a holiday after finding all the other places closed, we looked at la cabana and decided to try it. We liked it and will return. Service was quick and the food was hot. Great salsa.

  • Adam G.

Good authentic Mexican food. I always worry with small restaraunts that they will be unclean, but it is spotlessly clean here. The taco shells are fresh fried. The chips are warm. The salsa is fresh. All around good food. Give the chorizo a try, it delicious.

My family and I have been enjoying the food, service and atmosphere of La Cabana for over 10 years! The food is plentiful, delivered hot and tastes very good to excellent; even the chips and salsa (hot or mild to select from) rate as "take home" items they are that good. The quick and efficient service in no way takes away from the helpful friendliness of the staff of this family owned business. It is one of those places where you will frequently see the managerment talking with customers at tables, making sure you are enjoying your meal. The atmosphere is simple; many years ago they converted a larger home with additions into the restaurant making for unusual table arrangements. The walls are decorated with approriate and simply painted scenes and figures that add to the theme of "clean, no frills but have a good and enjoyable meal". And in the final assessment of course the reasonable cost only further adds to the many good reasons to have a meal there. I have noticed that it is increasingly crowded on weekends and I really don't want to have to eat elsewhere because I can't get a table, so disregard what I have said and never try their food, you won't enjoy yourself :).

I'd say it's in the top 2 I've had in about every category. The sautéd garlic shrimp, the hot salsa, and....well...just about everything with shrimp is done well. The carne asada is the only weak dish I've had. It's a little pricey for what you get, in my opinion, but it is definitely good. In regards to atmosphere and service, it's top notch. They were flexible with my wife's vegetarian requests, they were really friendly and...it's a fun place- you gotta try it at least once!!

Massive and adequate margaritas. Ok food. We had been on the road for a while and were looking forward to some Mexican food. It could have been better, but fine in a pinch.

We have been (or had been) going to La Cabana for many years, eating there once or twice a week! But then we quit going as their service continued to decline, and here we were regular customers! After all those years, we knew their names, they did not know ours. We have since adopted Fiesta American in Coeur d'Alene as our Mexican food restaurant of choice. Food is good at La Cabana, salsa is too chunky and with too many onions, service is poor.

This is authentic Mexican food! The prices are good for how much you get and it is DELICIOUS!! The service is great and the family who owns it has always been super sweet to me, and I am just a guest at the restaurant. They helped with a party of about 30 (I called ahead) and did awesome with food and hospitality

My boyfriend and I are new to the Post Falls area (transplants from California, go figure!) and so have been trying out the area restaurants. Being from California we are spoiled with pretty decent Mexican food. We saw this place and thought we would give it a shot. 2 meals later, I would rate it as pretty damn good Mexican. Service was prompt and friendly. Chips were served warm (mmm) and salsa was tasty as well. First visit I ordered the Taco and Tamale plate. The taco (shredded beef) was especially good nice and crisp shell, and meat was cooked just right. Tamale was decent, not the best ever, but not bad, I'm just picky about my tamales. Second visit I substituted the cheese enchilada, and it was delicious! Very ooey-gooey-cheesy! Taco was (still) delicious too! We will be back!

My husband love Mexican and I like it but it wouldn't be my first choice. Well it will be now since I have been to his place. The service was awesome. The food just down right amazing. My son was getting restless at the end and one of the ladies walked him around the restaurant and he loved it. It was so nice. The taco was amazing, cheese enchilada was fantastic (they ask if you want onions in it, YUM) and the rice and beans are good too. My mom got the chili relleno and it was the best I have ever had. Overall this place is my number one choice for Mexican Food. If you haven't tried it, you need to.

The best Mexican I found in northern Idaho, hands down. The decorations are beautiful, the food is delicious, and everyone who works there is friendly & helpful. I've never had a dish here that I didn't like, but I especially love the fresh, hot chips and fantastic salsa.

Best Mexican food hands down. First only to their brother restaurant, La Cocina, because this was the first one I had tried in town (both are neck and neck for good Mexican food so support both!!). La Cabana stole my heart.. er, stomach? :) it's a family owned local restaurant that is amazing in every aspect of their extensive menu. I have never tried something and not liked it. My family's favorites are the Machaca Plate, Summer Quesodilla, enchilladas, and the Burrito Grande. Bring an empty stomach because the portions are well sized! This is a great place to get take out, bring a large group, family, friends, kids, or a simple easy going date. Bond over their chips and salsa because they are the best I have EVER had. I think they can also cater, so those sports parties you want Mexican? They can help you out! I also don't think I have ever waited for a table. Though parking may look tight, they have room I promise. A must try! I promise you won't be disappointed.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
